Packaging artwork errors are among the leading causes of product recalls, customs rejections, and legal notices from food safety authorities. FSSAI's latest Labelling and Display Regulations place strict requirements on product labels.
Mandatory Label Elements Checklist
- Name of the Food: Must reflect the true nature of the product without misleading terms.
- List of Ingredients & Allergen Warning: All ingredients listed in descending order of weight. Major allergens (gluten, crustaceans, peanuts, soy, milk) must be clearly bolded or highlighted.
- Nutritional Information Panel: Per 100g or per serving values for Energy (kcal), Protein, Carbohydrates, Total Sugars, Added Sugars, Total Fat, Saturated Fat, Trans Fat, and Sodium.
- Veg / Non-Veg Logo: Standardized green or brown square with filled circle, complying with exact millimeter dimensions based on package surface area.
- FSSAI Logo & License Number: Must appear on the principal display panel with high contrast.
